The Powerful Tool of Networking

Looking back on 20 years of owning a business, I am where I am today as result of my commitment to networking.  I still network and have created strong alliances as my support system through networking.  This support system allows me to keep doing what I do best (first aid training) and lets ‘my team’ do what they do best: accounting; bookkeeping; IT support; marketing; administration; social media.  Networking also brings in clients.  If done right, networking puts you forefront of someone’s mind, and referrals come even if you are not there. I have clients that have been with me since day one!

Networking is a powerful tool that extends far beyond simply exchanging business cards or connecting on social media. It is a key aspect of personal and professional growth, offering numerous benefits that can impact your business and overall well-being. Whether you’re just starting your business, or looking to grow; understanding the benefits of networking can inspire you to invest time and effort into building meaningful connections.

1. Opens Doors to Opportunities

One of the most significant benefits of networking is the access it provides to new opportunities. Whether it’s a collaboration, a learning opportunity or new business; networking connects you with people who can introduce you to opportunities. By expanding your network, you increase the chances of being in the right place at the right time.

2. Builds Strong Relationships

Networking is about building genuine relationships rather than just collecting contacts. These relationships can lead to long-term professional connections that provide support, advice, and encouragement throughout your career. When you invest time in building trust and rapport with others, you create a network of allies who are willing to help you achieve your goals.

3. Enhances Your Knowledge and Skills

Networking allows you to tap into the knowledge and expertise of others. By interacting with people from different industries, backgrounds, and experiences, you can gain insights and perspectives that you might not encounter in your own field. These interactions can lead to personal growth, professional development, and the acquisition of new skills.

4. Boosts Your Confidence

Regularly engaging in networking activities can boost your confidence and self-esteem. As you become more comfortable meeting new people and discussing your business, you’ll develop stronger communication and interpersonal skills. This confidence can translate into other areas of your life, making you more assertive and proactive in pursuing your goals.

5. Provides a Support System

A strong network serves as a valuable support system, offering guidance and assistance when you need it most. Whether you’re facing a challenge, seeking advice, or looking for encouragement, your network can provide the support you need to navigate difficult situations. Having a reliable group of connections can help you feel more secure and confident in your decisions. After 20 years, my approach to networking is more of the master class approach (drawing on others’ expertise), but the aspect of village, community is always present.

6. Increases Your Visibility

Networking helps increase your visibility within your community. By attending events, participating in online forums, or engaging with others on social media, you can establish yourself as a knowledgeable and active member of your field. This increased visibility can lead to recognition, referrals, and opportunities to advance your career.

Networking has brought so much more into my life than just business.  Through building genuine relationships, I have a village full of diverse skillsets.  We share thoughts, ideas goals, hopes and offer support and guidance in return.  Networking has to be founded in this authentic connection, and I am grateful for these connections, built over 20 years.
