It’s Not So Shocking

According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, as many as 45,000 Canadians experience a sudden cardiac arrest each year. Early access to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation (1 to 3 minutes after cardiac arrest) is vital. These actions may increase the chance of survival by 75% or more.  Health Canada

AED devices are being installed in public locations across your community. They are also starting to be installed in offices, condo and apartment complexes.  AEDs can save a life; however, there is still a fear of using them.  The device works by “shocking”. What you may not know is that the device will not shock if there is no rhythm.  So it is highly unlikely that someone could ever cause injury.

There is also a fear of repercussion in case of more injury. In Ontario, the “good samaritan” laws prevent someone from being sued when they are trying to help.

The bottom line is to save a life.
